The acronym WIP stands for Work In Progress. A WIP limit is a team set limit for any given state of work (column). WIP is usually used to frame the capacity of your team and provide a warning when your team is taking on more work then there is capacity.

In Waffle, a column will be highlighted in red when the column goes over the WIP limit a team has set.

On the board below, the In Progress column is highlighted because it has exceeded it's set WIP limit.

See how far over your WIP limit you are by hovering on the number in the column header.

See each columns WIP limits by hovering over the card count or size to see how close you are to the limit as you plan or pull new work.
